I seemed to have botched the initial upload. Should be fixed now.
I've begun to read it-- pretty cool. I took the time to figure out how to use bit torrent and discovered .cbz only just this week, so good timing!
I discovered some problems with the original file I posted last night (a couple of corrupted pictures, as well as some registration problems that have now been corrected). I just uploaded over the original, so the same link will work if you want to grab the new one.
Sorry. :/
Please excuse my ignorance but what is .cbz format?
Basically it is a set of sequential images compressed into a zip or rar archive and renamed with a .cbz or .cbr extension. There are several viewer programs out there which can take the single file and read them as if they were a book. Or, you can just unzip/unrar them and view the resulting individual images in a web browser, image program, etc. Some viewer programs include: CDisplay, CBView and FFView.
I wondering why you use this format rather than something like PDF for example?
Well, I fully intend to make both available, it's just that I haven't had time to make the .pdfs yet. I have so far done two cut-and-paste zines that have (to date) only been released digitally (I will eventually produce a limited number of print copies of FUCK[tm].2004). The first one, Career Suicide, was .pdf only, and this was fully how I intended to circulate such publications in the future. Along the way it suddenly hit me that .cbz/.cbr is very simple for people to operate (there is a huge comic book scanning/trading underground that mainly uses this format), and I have also recently put out several of my comics in the same format under a Creative Commons license on BitTorrent, so I decided to use it here as well. My intention was/is to make both available. Basically, I am so strapped for time this week that after spending a whole evening scanning and assembling the above file, it was late and I was tired and I went to sleep. I forgot about making a page for it on my new hosted site and creating the .pdf!
Ah ok, I'm not into the underground comic scene so I didn't realize that is a common format. Very much a pdf oriented person. But I'd like to browse your new 'zine, so if the pdf is not up when I have some time to do so, I'll install the .cbz viewer.
Career suicide. Now that sounds like the story of my career.
BTW could you post the link to Career Suicide pdf? I've got the feeling it's going to be pretty amusing. | |
